20 October Callograph and Visiting Artist
Visiting Artist: Harun
This is the 2nd (ghost) print from my collagraph plate. We had to test the plate first because the pink acrylic pigment risked bleeding into the paper - luckily- the varnish sealed it and there were no wet pockets. This is my favourite and most effective print. There are some really nice tonal values and textures.
I feel like it is suggestive of a looking towards a cave, the textiles indicate a female presence and it hopefully it evokes different feelings. I'm going to title it "Mother Grundy"
I'm going to make up some more plates using textiles and traditional indigenous plants and see where it leads me.
This is the 3rd (ghost) print from the collagraph plate. I'm really pleased with the tonal values and textures in the print which feel organic. The threads imitate plants and grasses and the granular texture of the sandpaper with shadows does lead you into the cave. It's that bit paler and I'm tempted to work into it with another medium. This has more of a photographic feel than the 2nd print.
This is the first print - I love the dark ink but it is a bit thick and muddy. I thought the sandpaper would still grab the ink and make the "cave" darker against the surroundings but the varnish allowed the ink to lift so the inside of the cave is actually lighter. I really like the "abstract" nature with the intentional application of materials.
All 3 prints drying.
