18 October Collagraph Preparation and research
Separated cardboard, canvas, fabric, masking tape, heavy textured gesso, sandpaper.
Today was focused on professional proposals, CV, writing and an introduction to business, but I found some time afterwards to prep collographs for later in the week.
- I'm trying to achieve a cave landscape, with a viewpoint towards the opening of the cave.
- Nottingham contemporary exhibited several paintings of caves with a viewpoint out towards the sky.
- the intention is that the sandpaper grabs the ink, creates dark tonal values -
- The top image has pink heavy body acrylic mixed with Gesso -that I hope will soften some of the tonal contrasts where mediums meet - I want to keep threads and textures but don't want a full collage effect.
- I want to represent the dark sentiment that has been linked to caves and the reference to shelter/ the cave as a homestead/ safe place.
Research
Found an article on a discovery in relation to pre christian art hidden under limestone whitewash in a Mexican convent. I find this act of creating art in retaliation to the suppression of culture interesting.
I'm digging away at the layers of translation to find an authentic natural culture in my own area.
